Donna thinks of herself as a painter first and foremost. Her love of color and large gesture strokes lend themselves to her expressive imagery. Donna first built a following for her work on the national level with a series of dancers in pastel. It has been said that to see the quick fresh stokes of pastel gives the viewer the feeling of dancers leaping right off the canvas into mid-air. This understanding of the spirit of dance caught the eye of the director of the Boshoi Ballet while visiting in the US.
